Shabbath Shalom ¦ Sabbath From PNG
A weekly 25-hour observance, from just before sundown each Friday through the completion of nightfall on Saturday, Shabbat is more than just a day off from work.
Shabbat happens each week from sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday. During Shabbat, Jewish people remember the story of creation from the Torah where God created the world in 6 days and rested on the 7th day.
Shabbat can be a time to eat a special meal on your own, with a partner or with friends, think about the past week and the week ahead, feel gratitude for those around you and just to breathe. People of all faiths are welcome to join in your Shabbat rituals.
Celebration of Shabbat begins in the home: The house is cleaned thoroughly before sunset on Friday. As no work can be done during Shabbat, all food required is cooked in advance. Shabbat is welcomed in the home with the lighting of candles.
Shabbat traditionally includes three meals: a Friday night dinner, a Saturday lunch, and a lighter Saturday dinner. Start Shabbat by lighting 2 candles on the dinner table just before sunset on Friday.
